Jenna Andrews (11) started a drive that would see the Randburg SPCA get money and some items the organisation needs for the cats and dogs they house.
The young animal lover has set a goal of R2 000 and 30 blankets to give to the organisation and, so far, through the help of community she has managed to raise R600 and several bags of dog food.
She hopes to achieve the goal she set by selling badges her mother, Michelle, helped source for the initiative.
After she rescued her beloved beagle-spaniel-Labrador mix, whom she named Fudge, Jenna thought of all the animals still waiting to find their new homes.
So, with a deep need to help our four-legged friends she went in pursuit of helping make sure they felt loved.
She sent out a plea to the community that reads:
And so started this Roosevelt Park resident’s mission to make a difference. With her mother there to help, the two would venture into communities with Jenna asking people to play their part towards the admirable initiative.
“She approaches people and asks them to either donate goods the animals would need, or buy a badge,” said Michelle.
She added that this was an initiative that Jenna came up with solely on her own and her investment in its success is one that is great to see.
“She feels something for the animals,” said Michelle.
Jenna will continue with her drive for the next two weeks and for its success, she needs the community’s help to make her goal of helping animals a reality.
