Suspect to appear in court after Lyme Park school dorm break-in

RANDBURG – A suspect is expected to appear in court to face charges of housebreaking and theft after breaking into a local school hostel.

A suspect is expected to appear in court to face charges of housebreaking and theft after breaking into a local school hostel.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested by Randburg police after a learner had his laptop stolen from inside the hostel in Lyme Park on 2 May.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “Allegedly, the learner left his room with windows and doors closed to go and watch a movie.

“When he came back later, he realised that his laptop was missing. Access is said to have been gained through the door which was not locked.”

A case docket was opened with the police and a preliminary investigation was conducted that identified the suspect.

“On 11 May, a team of detectives traced the suspect to the Olivenhoutbosch area where he was arrested.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court together with other suspects who were arrested on the weekend in multi-disciplinary operations conducted by the Randburg police.

“These suspects range from drunk and driving, possession of dagga, drinking in public, fraud and illegal gambling.”
