Local beauty focused on the commonwealth of the community

FONTAINEBLEAU – Local, Pravina Michael is set to make great changes in her community as she is one of the 14 finalists in the Mrs Commonwealth SA competition.

Local, Pravina Michael plans to make her community proud as she takes part in Mrs Commonwealth South Africa.

She is one of 14 women who was chosen to be a finalist in the competition.

Michael took a friend’s suggestion that she take part in the competition. She filled in an application form and was invited for an interview and as they say, the rest is history.

The competition will run for seven months and will culminate in October at The Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City when the winner will be chosen.

Michael also wanted to participate in the competition because she had the desire to do something for her community.

She said the pageant gave her the platform to get firsthand experience of the challenges her community faced. The three areas she wants to focus on are drug abuse among teenagers, breast cancer awareness and human trafficking.

As a mother of two sons, one of whom struggled with drug abuse, she aims to bring teenage drug abuse to the forefront.

“I want to work with rehabilitation centres to build greater awareness,” she said.

Michael added that whether she took the grand prize or not, her sole mission was to affect change in her community.

Should she win, Michael will head travel abroad to represent the country in various international pageants.

“This platform would allow me to share my country’s beauty with the world and let them know that the country has so much to offer the world.”
