Fading road markings can be hazardous for motorists and pedestrians, along main arterial routes such as Beyers Naudé Drive.
The reporting of fading road markings is essential and will help the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the Department of Roads and Transport keep them maintained.

Some roads fall under the jurisdiction of the department while most smaller roads are the responsibility of the roads agency, which repaints roads every three to six months.
The spokesperson for JRA, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, said a maintenance plan was in place regarding all road markings of major arterial routes and three contractors have been appointed to assist the agency’s internal teams with the execution of the plans.
The department repaints the markings annually and maintenance is also done when and where there is an urgent need.
