Windsor Action Group discusses way forward at monthly public meeting

WINDSOR EAST – The Windsor Action Group met for their monthly meeting at the Windsor East Recreation Centre on 8 May.

The Windsor Action Group met for their monthly public meeting at the Windsor East Recreation Centre on 8 May.

The group meets to discuss important issues in the Windsor area. At this meeting, their new executive committee, that was elected at the last annual general meeting, was introduced.

Committee members presented their revised constitution, which was updated to clearly define the specific roles and duties of members and the executive committee members.

The group’s spokesperson, Karen Olivier said, “The strategy that we have chosen for this year is area improvement. Some of the issues we will focus on specifically is cleaning the area, whether it is clearing litter or clearing drugs.

“We also want residents to take responsibility for their areas. If there is litter, pick it up, and if you see criminal activity, report it. If there is a problem, report it.”

The Metro police and the South African Police Service also attended the meeting.

This is the first meeting that the community group has held since the mass evictions that took place on 17 April. Olivier said, “We were not informed about the evictions prior to them happening, but we welcome any positive action in the area, so long as it happens in a legal way.”

The community group has welcomed any legal and positive action that role-players have made to work towards the improvement of the area.

“As a group, we organised ourselves to improve the quality of life and uphold property values in Windsor. We seek to promote the values of integrity, respect, harmony and prosperity within our community, and inspiring its people to work together for the upliftment of their society and their environment.”

The group encourages all residents of Windsor to make sure they are paying their rent, but also to ensure that they are paying it to the correct person.

The group holds a meeting on the first Tuesday of every month and also participates in the monthly A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign.

The Windsor Action Group is a non-profit, non-racial, non-religious, non-political group of residents and property owners of Windsor East and Windsor West.

Olivier continued, “We are only a small group of people trying to improve our suburb, and we would like to have a greater impact by encouraging other concerned residents to join us.

If we all can pull together, we can make a big change in this area. Stop complaining and do something about it.”

Olivier encouraged all Windsor residents to join the Windsor Action Group.
