Three men will be behind bars for eight years after being convicted of their crimes in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Leo Nkala, Thabani Ncube and Sikhonzile Ncube were sentenced to eight years direct imprisonment for a car hijacking.

On 8 March at around 10pm, their victim was parked on the corner of Braamfischer Drive and Dover Street when the trio pounced on him.

According to Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja, one of the suspects casually knocked on the window, and the victim unlocked his door to find out what the person wanted.

At that moment, three suspects opened his doors and jumped into the back and passenger seats of his vehicle. Maja said, “One of the suspects was armed with a pistol. The suspects tried to take his phone, but he fought with them until he was threatened with a firearm, and taken out of the vehicle.”

The suspects then drove off in his car.

Maja added, “The case docket was opened and assigned to Detective Constable Lungani Mtshali, who is from the Johannesburg West Cluster task team.

“Upon receiving the docket, through intelligence [gathering], he managed to track the suspects and the vehicle, which was recovered in the Hillbrow area, together with a firearm that had its serial number filed off.”

All three were arrested and charged with car hijacking.

The trio had been in custody until they were sentenced.
