Johannesburg west cluster arrest 132 suspects over the weekend

RANDBURG – Members of the crime intelligence service and the K9 unit held a joint operation over the weekend.

Three suspects aged between 29 and 41 appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Courts on 23 April to face charges of drug possession.

Captain Makgowanyana Maja said it is alleged that on the afternoon of 21 April, members of the crime intelligence service, together with the K9 unit conducted an operation when they received information about a suspect who deals in drugs.

“They spotted the vehicle which was described to them and the suspect,” added Maja.

Upon stopping the vehicle and searching it, two plastic packets were found containing crystal meth with a street value of R500 and the suspect was arrested.

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested in Douglasdale informal settlement, Msawawa.

It is alleged that the victim was sleeping when he heard a door breaking. As he went to check he noticed three suspects in the house, one with a firearm. He was threatened with the firearm and the suspects demanded cash.

“They took cash and fled the scene. Two suspects were arrested with the help of the community and the other escaped,” said Maja

Some arrests were made during multidisciplinary operations held across the cluster, which included crimes ranging from drunk and driving, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, being in possession of suspected stolen property, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, housebreaking and theft, business breaking and theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Through the operation police also found a firearm with the serial number filed off.

After a chase ensued between suspects and police in Linden, balaclavas were also recovered after the suspects managed to flee, leaving their vehicle after it crashed, which was later impounded.
