RANDBURG – A man was recently sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Randburg Magistrates' Court for house robbery.

A man was recently sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for a house robbery.

Peter Bafela Maphula, captured in 2014, has been awaiting trial for four years.

On 30 January 2014, at about 6pm, a family was relaxing watching television in their Bryanston home when two suspects rang the bell on their gate.

The suspects were in a vehicle pretending to do deliveries. Private security opened the gate, letting the suspects inside. The suspects assaulted the security guards and immobilised them using cable ties.

They then threatened the victim with a firearm, pushed him into the guard room and, with another two unknown men, proceeded to ransack the house and took valuable items before fleeing the scene.

A case was opened at the Randburg Police Station and was assigned to detective sergeant Genas Moodley. Moodley worked tirelessly, using investigative tools to track the suspect down and arrest him.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The management of the station has welcomed the verdict, and appreciates and applauds the work being done by all role players in the matter,

“Thank you all, for making sure that those who terrorise our community are kept away for a long time.

“To all witnesses involved in the matter, we appreciate. Working together we will win and keep our community free and safe.”
