The police have warned women living alone to be extra vigilant and avoid being targets.
This after a 57-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in her home.
According to Linden Police Station’s spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, the woman was cleaning her house when two men pressed her intercom and pretended to be staff members of the company that was going to install wooden floors in her house.
The woman went outside and stood at the gate to speak to the men.
“One of the suspects was standing at the gate and wearing blue overalls while the second suspect sat in a white bakkie with a canopy and parked in front of the gate,” said Matumba.
“When they indicated they were there to do the job, the woman told the suspects that she will call their supervisor. The suspect in blue overalls then took out a gun and threatened the woman to open the gate and drove in.”
Once in, the suspects took the woman into a bedroom where they tied her by the wrists. They also tied up the gardener who was working in the yard and brought him into the bedroom.
The suspects then ransacked the house, taking computers, television sets, jewellery and many other electronic appliances.
“‘After the suspects had packed the stolen goods in their vehicle, they left the premises. The victims managed to untie themselves and contact Linden police who went immediately to the scene to assist. The victims could only identify one of the suspects who pointed the firearm at them,” said Matumba.
