Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba praised the officers who arrested the man.

“The suspect was apprehended a day or two after the incident on Monday 2 April and was found with an unknown number of cellphones,” said Matumba. “After further investigations, we found that the cellphones matched those that were at the store in Cresta. He will remain in police custody until he appears in the magistrates’ court soon.”

The Edgars Connect store was robbed at gunpoint by three suspects who forced a staff member to open the safe.

The suspects fired two shots as they fled the scene in a white Corolla and silver Hyundai i20 with fake registration plates. Nobody was hurt during the incident.

“To have arrested the one suspect that was linked to the robbery will help us reel in the remaining suspects who are still at large. I would like to appeal to the community to come forward with any information that will help the investigation,” added Matumba.
