Joburg EMS on high alert this Easter weekend

JOBURG – All 29 fire stations throughout the City will be fully operational throughout the holiday period.

As the Easter weekend draws closer, motorists are being reminded to keep safe on the road in a notoriously accident-prone weekend.

Robert Mulaudzi, spokesperson for Joburg’s Emergency Management Services (EMS), said the department will be on high alert over the weekend and urged motorists to be safe on the roads.

“There will be an increase in traffic flows leaving and some coming into the City of Johannesburg as holidaymakers will be driving to various holiday and religious destinations,” he said.

“During this time we need to pay special attention to the rules of the road to ensure the safety of everybody on the road.”

All 29 fire stations throughout the City will be fully operational throughout the holiday period.

“Our firefighters and paramedics didn’t take leave to be with their families. They have made this sacrifice to ensure that as an organisation we are ready to render effective professional emergency services to all the residents and visitors of the City at all times.”

If you will be using the road this weekend, make sure to remember the following:

  • Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy
  • Get quality sleep before setting off on your journey
  • Wear seatbelts at all the times while driving, no matter the distance or speed travelled
  • Don’t drink alcohol and drive
  • If driving long distances, take a break at least every two hours.
