Beanies for Beings turns a year old

SUNDOWNER – Local charity is turning one and will host a birthday party later this month.

Local charity, Beanies for Beings is turning one, later this month and Summerfields Shopping Centre will host a fun-filled party to celebrate the milestone.

It will be a cupcake and chocolate-filled morning at the centre where one can buy and decorate a cupcake. The centre will donate a portion of the proceeds on the day to Beanies for Beings.

Children can also take pictures with the Easter bunny and there will be free marshmallow eggs for them as well. Children will also enjoy the chocolate fountains while a stilt-walking balloon sculptor will also entertain them.

Megan Botha, founder of Beanies for Beings said she never expected that a small decision on her part would have such an impact in the community.

“For my 46th birthday last year, I decided to make 460 beanies to give to the underprivileged children instead of receiving a gift,” said Botha.

“I never expected to end up making 1 200 beanies and I certainly didn’t expect it to grow into a full-time charity organisation that not only assists underprivileged children but adults, old age homes, animal shelters, schools and crèches.

I feel so blessed that it has grown the way it has; the support we receive is incredible and I’m so excited to see it grow even more and I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays.”

The party will take place on 31st March from 10am to 2pm.
