The remembrance parade has evolved into an annual event remembering those who lost their lives in service to the City around the end of February or early March each year.

Metro police have set up a task team recently to deal with the alarming rate of killings this year.

Three officers and a part-time traffic warden were killed in less than a month.

Throughout the years, barring 2014, no more than four or five officers died every year.

The task team, consisting of Joburg Metro police members, who will work together with the South African police, the City’s Group Forensic Investigation Unit and other law enforcement agencies, are expected to make arrests in these cases.

The remembrance parade is held on the piazza outside the new council chamber in Braamfontein.
