What to do if you witness a cash-in-transit heist

RANDBURG – SBV shares some safety tips on what to do in the midst of a cash-in-transit heist.

On Tuesday, 6 March, a video surfaced showing a cash-in-transit heist in Randburg. There were widespread claims that SBV Cash Services was involved in the heist, however, these allegations have been refuted by SBV.

Mark Barret, the group CEO of SBV Services, said cash-in-transit crime is increasingly becoming one of the biggest dangers to the South African public.

“The video shows the complete disregard for lives, not only for our industry personnel who are trained to face this type of combat, but more importantly for innocent bystanders. Everyone in the vicinity of that attack was at risk,” said Barret.

He said the video was a good example of how eyewitness accounts can assist in exposing the extent of the violence surrounding these heists and assist law enforcement in identifying perpetrators. However, Barrett warned the public to not put themselves at risk.

SBV shared the following safety tips if ever you’re caught in the midst of a cash-in-transit heist:

“Cash in Transit thugs are a danger to South Africa. We appeal to the public to assist us and the authorities with any information related to these crimes. These criminals are surrounded by family and friends who know what they’re doing – by speaking up you could help save a life. Whether it’s an early warning or information about a past cash-in-transit heist, it’s time to blow the whistle,” concluded Barrett.
