Chef Kabelo Segone, from the HTA School of Culinary Arts in Ferndale, visited the King’s School in Robin Hills to share his cookery expertise.

Segone encouraged the school’s hospitality studies learners to play, learn and have fun cooking, with a special lesson focused on poultry.

Chef Kabelo Segone introduces himself to the learners.

This was the second time Segone has visited the school – this time with a different menu to offer the children.

“The meal that I will show the learners how to prepare today will be a grilled chicken ballotine, filled with a mushroom duxelle, pea puree, rainbow carrots and tender steamed broccoli.”

“Teaching is a passion for me, and while I am used to teaching adults who wish to become professional chefs, teaching crucial cooking skills at a high school level is something that I care deeply about.

“I am here today to help support young talent and give back to my community.”

The school’s hospitality studies subject leader, Tandi Theron said, “We have formed such a good relationship with chef Segone and the HTA School of Culinary Arts.

He has come to teach our learners the skills they need to acquire, but what I admire most, is his passion for cooking and teaching.

“Hospitality studies are part of our school’s curriculum, and we always encourage experts from further afield to share their wealth of knowledge with our students.”
