RANDPARK – Elderly couple in terrifying robbery.

An elderly couple was held up in a terrifying armed robbery around midday on 26 February on Slangkop Avenue.

The 94-year-old man and 84-year-old woman were at home when the incident took place.

Linden Police Station spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba.

According to Linden Police Station spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba, the female victim was allegedly dragged from the kitchen by her neck with the man shouting ‘I’m going to kill you’.

The attackers are said to have dragged the woman to her bedroom, where her husband was.

He tried to hit one attacker with his walking stick but did not have the strength to put up a fight.

Both victims were thrown onto the bed, with their attackers allegedly strangling them.

The elderly woman begged for her life and promised to show the attackers where their valuables were.

The suspects made away with cash, jewellery, watches, phones and an ID book.

Captain Alex Vermaak added, “I believe that it is the responsibility of the younger generation to make sure that the elderly have the correct security measures in place to make sure that incidents like this do not happen.

“It is a difficult situation when victims are in their 90s and are still living by themselves without care at home… From a security standpoint, they are victims in waiting.”
