When a loved one is missing, report it immediately

HONEYDEW – Forget 24-hour wait when loved one is missing.

The Honeydew Police Station would like to encourage the community to not wait 24 hours after a loved one goes missing.

They are urging family members to open a missing person report at the police station immediately.

According to police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, time is of the essence and reporting a missing person as soon as possible will allow the police to start investigating immediately.

“The community must know that they do not have to wait for a day to pass before reporting a family member or a friend missing,” he said.

“Every second counts so they must report it immediately so we can start investigating on our side. Our mandate is to serve and protect all citizens of this country.”

To file a missing person report, this is what you will need:

When reporting a missing person to the police, you will need a recent photograph of the missing person and a detailed description of their last known whereabouts, the clothes the person was wearing as well as any other information that may assist the investigating officer.

The police will also need a completed SAPS 55(A) signed by the person filing the report. This is to safeguard the police against any hoax reports as well as allowing them to distribute the photograph and information of the missing person.

The investigating officer’s details should be kept at hand to keep them up to date and any additional information should be sent through to them as well. Should a missing person be found, the investigating officer should be informed immediately.
