Doober Building Services renovates The Lighthouse Baby Shelter in Sundowner

SUNDOWNER – Lighthouse Baby Shelter gets a room renovation by Doober Building Services.

The Lighthouse Baby Shelter will enjoy a renovated room thanks to a donation from Doober Building Services .

The shelter, which caters to children who were abandoned or abused, has been in operation since 2008 and has managed to thrive without government assistance. One of the members of the Doober team, Julia Scafidas explained that they specifically looked for shelters within the Randburg area to assist.

“What we loved about this shelter is that they deal with orphans who have HIV and we knew we could really help here,” said Scafidas.

Semi-skilled labourer, Shelton Mkhize paints a room at Lighthouse Baby Shelter.

Fellow team member, Sizakele Nene said Doober was a mobile app that coordinated jobs for semi-skilled labourers such as painters and tilers.

“We coordinate jobs and help them find clients in different areas in Johannesburg,” she said.

The room was retiled and painted by two semi-skilled labourers who were found through the app.

“The most important thing is that we are able to touch the lives of the children here, and we wanted to do something that would make an impact.”

The Doober team hope this will motivate others in the community to do their part and help change the lives of others.
