Darrenwood housebreaker sentenced to six years behind bars

RANDBURG – Six years behind bars for housebreaking.

A man was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment by Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 February after a housebreaking incident in Darrenwood late last year.

The judge found Sfiso Mamela guilty of housebreaking and theft, and declared Mamela unfit to possess a firearm.

Constable Takalani Matumba, the spokesperson for Linden Police Station, said police were called to the scene of the crime in Cheyne Road, Darrenwood, after neighbours reported suspicious activity at the property.

When the police arrived at the property, they noticed that the front door of the property had been forced open. When entering, the officers encountered four armed suspects in the lounge.

The suspects managed to escape with various electronic goods and jewellery. While combing the area, the police managed to capture Mamela but the other three got away.

The stolen items that Mamela had on him were recovered but his accomplices managed to get away with the others.

Matumba added, “I would like to congratulate all the officers involved in the arrest, investigation, and conviction of this criminal.”

Mamela will serve his sentence at Johannesburg’s Medium B prison in Naturena outside the city centre.
