Cansa Shavathon at Randridge Mall

RANDPARK RIDGE – Shave or colour your hair for a good cause

Randridge Mall will once again be hosting the annual Cansa Shavathon on 24 February.

This is the seventh year the event has been held at the mall, and shoppers are encouraged to visit the Dis-Chem Court to shave or colour their hair.

Not only will shoppers be contributing towards a good cause, but R20 000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs in a draw.

Hot FM radio personality Mark Pilgrim will be broadcasting live from Randridge Mall, while the South African National Blood Service will also join the event.

If shoppers need more encouragement to take part in the Shavathon, then selected stores in the mall will also be participating and are offering discounts and prizes to those who colour or shave their hair.

Regional marketing manager, Landi van Deventer said the most important reason for the event is to show support for those who are affected by cancer.

This year, for just R10, one can buy a Hopie block. A Hopie block is a small square piece of cloth and those who buy one can write a motivational message on it.

The squares will be sewn together into a blanket. This blanket will be donated to cancer patients. Shoppers can buy a block, write their name and a motivational message on it, as well as make a handprint.

“The idea behind the blanket is to offer comfort to a patient suffering from cancer. Each blanket will showcase nine messages of hope when the patient is lying in a hospital while scared, lonely and feeling hopeless,” said Van Deventer.

“Each block will also have the handprint of the person who has written a message. This is so that when the patient puts their hands on the handprint, there is a personal connection between them.”
