‘Dispose of your old electronics properly’ – police

LINDEN – Familiarise yourself with places to dispose of electronic goods properly as doing so incorrectly will attract crime, say police.

Familiarise yourself properly with places where you can dispose of electronic goods properly because if you don’t, it could attract crime.

Discarding of used electronic goods improperly is a dead giveaway that you have new equipment, according to the police.

“By putting used equipment on display on the street next to your bin, you are advertising to every criminal walking by that you have new equipment up for grabs,” said Captain Walter Spencer, Linden police spokesperson.

When disposing of your electronic items, use a Pikitup plant equipped with an e-waste recycling facility.

Broken electronic goods are often illegally dumped in the suburbs, and the police are swamped with calls from concerned residents who believe that the goods have been abandoned after a robbery.

“I am advising community members to not throw anything away that might look as if it has been stolen… People throw away nice things, broken or not, and they need to learn how to do this properly,” Spencer continued.

People who dig in bins are often stopped and searched for no reason other than finding a thrown away electronic item.
