WATCH: ANC members assault BLF members

JOBURG - BLF member narrowly escapes wrath of ANC members.

The situation remains calm with members of the African National Congress ensuring that no invasion of their headquarters, Luthuli House, takes place.

This after some organisations, including friends of President Jacob Zuma (Hands off Zuma) and Black First Land First (BLF) members threatened to march to Luthuli House.

Members are singing struggle songs outside the headquarters in the Joburg Central Business District with a strong police presence.

In one incident, a BLF member was chased by members of the ruling party after what was seen as a provocation. The unknown member of BLF was quickly protected and taken away by the police when the ANC members bayed for his blood.
However, the police were able to maintain order.

Later, at around noon, a group of BLF members, who arrived a bakkie, were assaulted by ANC members but the police acted with speed to rescue them. A bakkie was also damaged in the process.
Stanley Itshegetseng, member of the ANC Vuyani Mabaxa branch, Ward 27 in Soweto, said they were there to protect their headquarters.

“We will not allow people to invade Luthuli House, it’s like undermining the movement,” said Itshegetseng.

“We will wait until they arrive and we will not let other people, especially from outside our organisation, impose on us.”
