Allister Coetzee to be dismissed?
After another frustrating year for Springbok, it looks like the contract terms are the only thing to keep Coetzee at his post.
Although his contract of the Bok’s head coach remains in power until the end of the World Cup 2019, the rumor has it that that SA Rugby has long been looking to dismiss Coetzee, yet they have to be aware of the legal consequences their actions might have. Nevertheless, the Springbok’s coach remains confident and does not seem to be willing to step down. He is quite determined to lead the team until his contract is no longer valid in 2019.
After a flying start with 5 consecutive wins in 2017, the South African team played against Australia’s Wallabies in Perth. The Bok drew against the Australians, however, it quickly went down the hill. According to Stakers.com, their match with the world champion All Blacks finished with a crushing score: 57-0. This match went down in the Springbok’s history as the worst defeat they have ever had.
Their next match against Wallabies in Bloemfontein resulted in yet another draw, and they almost won against the All Black at Newlands. After the previous severe defeat, the Boks seemed to be back on the uphill road. However, this positive trend ended soon enough after a 38-3 defeat to Ireland. This renewed the calls for Coetzee’s dismissal.
In accordance with the information published by the sports website, the South African team managed to defeat the Welsh in the final test of the year with the 24-22 score. Nevertheless, this didn’t help the coach to win back the trust of the South African rugby fans. The only question that remains is who will replace Allister Coetzee.
Some major changes are expected to be implemented to Springbok coaching structures. Taking into account that Rassie Erasmus is ready to take over the position of the South African director of rugby, he might also replace Coetzee as the Bok’s coach. Deon Davids, the current Kings’s coach, might be another possible candidate. Coetzee, in his turn, refuses to believe that his time is over and is determined to lead the South African team during the Rugby World Cup 2019 tournament.
