Traffic jams on CR Swart will end soon

BOSKRUIN – Construction on a damaged water pipe on CR Swart Drive is nearing its end according to the local ward councillor.

Construction on a damaged water pipe on CR Swart Drive is nearing completion, according to the local ward councillor.

The site at the intersection of CR Swart Drive and Kowie Road has been causing traffic problems for the past few months.

Ward 134 councillor, Wendy Alexander, confirmed on 23 January that the construction work is nearing completion.

Alexander said, “I would just like to let the community know that we acknowledge that the site is a mess, but… we hope that the site will be reinstated in the next week or so.”

Many residents have raised their concerns about the site that is often flooded with water and causes soil erosion which blocks the intersection after some rain.

“Johannesburg Water has left the site open for a period, but this is due to very necessary reasons,” Alexander said.

According to Alexander, the site has been left open for testing to confirm that the repair has been done correctly and to ensure that the site dries.

Once these tests have been completed, the company will fill in the excavation and compact the soil.

After that, the Johannesburg Roads Agency will inspect the site, fill out the necessary paperwork, and re-tar the road.

Alexander said, “The JRA has already inspected the repair to check for water leakage, and they are happy with it. Residents can expect the repair to be completed within the coming week as the JRA is treating this as a priority.”
