Shots fired in Fountainebleau

Fontainebleau – Linden Police and CSS react to house break-in

Linden police officers are on the hunt for three armed suspects who allegedly tied up a family during a housebreaking incident in the early hours of 23 January. However, a fourth suspect was apprehended by police officers and taken into custody after failing to escape.

It is unknown how the suspects entered the Fontainebleau home, however, when they did, they rounded the family up and allegedly tied their hands up with cable ties.

The suspects then ransacked the house and stole electronic equipment.

Community Services Support (CSS) and police officers were alerted to the incident and one of the CSS officers, David Mokqotho reacted quickly. Mokqotho was let into the yard by the family’s daughter who lives in the cottage at the back of the property.

Mokqotho said, “I had to kick the house’s door down to gain access, but by that time, the suspects had already escaped. I went outside while the daughter took care of her parents and I inspected the yard.”

The reaction officer then heard rustling noises in the garden and used his torch to check where the sound was coming from.

The suspects fired two shots at Mokqotho, and he returned fire, hitting one of the suspects while three others escaped.

The stolen items were recovered from the yard where the suspects were hiding as they did not have a chance to pack them in bags and make their getaway. The suspects only escaped with two cellphones and a tablet.
