A buddy for your gate

RANDPARK – "Merely having an alarm system as a deterrent is not enough, you need to ensure that it is operational and connected to armed response with panic buttons."

As a focus for the new year, Linden police are placing a strong emphasis on encouraging community members to become more alert as police officers increase their visibility and to ensure their alarm systems are fully operational.

Spokesperson for Linden Police Station, Captain Walter Spencer said, “Merely having an alarm system as a deterrent is not enough, you need to ensure that it is operational and connected to armed response with panic buttons.”

Police officers work closely with local security companies and community policing forums to ensure that residences are protected with the correct security measures which will ensure that families are stay safe.

“Consider installing a palisade fence at your home to increase visibility and install extra equipment such as a CCTV… One amazing innovation that has led to the arrest of many individuals is the Gate Buddy gate and motor sensor.”

A Gate Buddy is a new innovation that senses tampering on your gate, sending a silent alert to your security before you even know you are being burgled.

Greg Pearce of Community Support Services said, “We actually designed our own Gate Buddy about four years ago, and after spending lots of time changing a few things we started rolling them out in the community eight months ago.”

Since then, the alarm has resulted in the arrest of several individuals in Randpark.

“The modus operandi of an organised criminal is to breach your entry gate, kick down your front door and steal… He only has a minute to do so while your alarm keypad is beeping.
“In that time, they have already made off with electronic goods and their getaway vehicle is on its way out before the alarm goes off.”

Pearce argued that the silence of the Gate Buddy alarm will alert the authorities before they have even entered the property.

“Our design does three things, it protects your gate motor, detects gate tampering and it is also on a timer… If your gate is open for a suspicious amount of time, the alarm signal will trigger.”
