Harrowing heat didn’t hamper Harriers

JOBURG – The Randburg Harriers showed great representation at the Wits Varsity Kudus 15km Road Race in Braamfontein.

In the sweltering heat on 6 January, the Randburg Harriers were well represented at the Wits Varsity Kudus 15km Road Race in Braamfontein.

“It was so hot on the day and it was a tough route… But thoroughly enjoyable,” said Kim Coutts, a Randburg Harriers runner.

“It was a great way to start off the 2018 racing calendar and it was a well-organised event.”

The race started and presented a challenging finish in front of the iconic Great Hall steps of Wits University.

More than 2 000 contenders ran the beautiful route with many hills through the leafy suburbs of Parkview, Westcliff and Parktown.

Randburg Harriers club secretary, Cathy Cowan added, “This was the biggest turnout for the club that we have ever seen with almost 100 people catered for.

“We would like to give a massive commendation to all our club members who braved the heat and to the Varsity Kudus for staging an amazing event.”

The next big event for Harriers will be their very own Valentine’s 10km Night Race on 16 February at the Randburg Sports Complex on Republic Road.

“We hope to see a huge turnout like we saw at Wits and we encourage all to join us,” said Cowan
