Sentencing proceedings in the case against Vicki Momberg have been postponed to 26 January for the defence’s testimony in mitigation.
Momberg appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 13 December. State prosecutor Yusuf Baba told the court that the defence was still waiting for the social worker’s report.

Advocate Kevin Lawler, for Momberg, told the court that the social workers needed 21 days to complete the report. He also told the court that the social workers’ offices were closing for the festive season, which means that the report can only be finalised next year.
Both parties agreed to postpone the case to 26 January for sentencing.
The defence was also uncertain if they will call more witnesses. During Momberg’s previous court appearance, Lawler had told the court that they would call Momberg’s doctor from Durban to testify. However, the doctor did not show up at court on 13 December.
Baba asked for clarity from the defence. Lawler informed the court that the defence will finalise the matter when Momberg appears in court in January.
In November, Momberg was found guilty on four counts of crimen injuria after she was caught on video spewing racist remarks at a black police officer. She also used the k-word during a 10111 call.
In mitigation, Momberg told the court that she regrets her actions on the day .
She also informed the court that her efforts to apologise have been met with total rejection.
