Ward councillor hosts tea party for elderly

MALANSHOF – DA Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood hosted a Christmas tea for the residents of Silver Stream Retirement Village.

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood brought the festive spirit to the elderly by hosting a tea party at Silver Stream Retirement Village.

The villages’ manager, Deon Bruiner said, “Wood has done a lot for them throughout the year. From attending to blown transformers and burst water pipes, as well as making sure that the road that leads to the village is tarred.

“Mike has always been there for the village and we appreciate all that he has done for the community.”

At the tea party, Wood spoke about various topics relating to what the City inherited from the old administration.

“There is a backlog of R170 million in infrastructure upgrades throughout the city,” Wood said.

“R5 billion of that amount is for bridge repairs by the Johannesburg Roads Agency.”

Wood explained that there is also a housing backlog of 300 000 units. “The City cannot be fixed overnight but my hopes are to see the city become a world-class one in my lifetime. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions to the City as everyone has played their part.”

Wood wished everyone joy and happiness this festive season. “There is just too much negativity. People all need to play a role in the country. Even with limited resources, you can still do something.”
