The Johannesburg Roads Agency has completed 40 per cent of the required roadworks on a giant sinkhole in Randburg.
The sinkhole is located on the righthand side of the dual carriageway on Republic Road before Rabie Street.
Acting managing director for the agency, Goodwill Mbatha said, “The sinkhole occurred after heavy rainfall in October, rendering the road unsafe for use.
A site investigation revealed that the sinkhole was the result of damage to a collapsed storm water pipe and a damaged junction box.
“The sinkhole has been filled with concrete and dump rock and repairs on the junction box is at 95 per cent complete.
Preparation on road layers commenced this week, with the final repairs and rehabilitation of the section of the road expected to be complete by mid December.”
Mbatha also encouraged motorists to obey road signs, traffic signals and be mindful of the men at work on Republic Road.
“We thank you for your patience.”
