Protesters block Malibongwe Drive, Metro police rally to stop protest

NIETGEDACHT – Protesters blocked off traffic as they burnt tyres.

Protesters were dispersed from Malibongwe Drive near the old Lion Park on the morning of 13 December by Metro police officers.
Spokesperson for Metro police, Senior Superintendent, Wayne Minnaar said the protesters gathered along the road to protest against housing disputes in their community.

Minnaar said, “There is currently no protest action taking place and just the remnants of rock and debris still laid on the road. We were able to disperse the protesters without any confrontation.”

Minnaar added that there was now free-flowing traffic along the route and that Metro police officers are monitoring the area.
