Off-duty officers arrest suspects in Randburg

RANDBURG – Four suspects appear in court after being found in possession of suspected stolen goods.

Four suspects aged between 29 and 54 appeared in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 12 December to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

It is alleged that on 10 December at about 7.20pm, off-duty officers were on their way home when they spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on.

Randburg Police Station’s Captain Makgowanyana Maja said the vehicle had four occupants inside.

“The officers decided to stop just a few metres away from the vehicle and observe. One of the officers wearing civilian clothes got out of the vehicle and pretended to urinate while observing.”

Maja said one suspect got out of the vehicle and allegedly jumped over the wall of the company which they had parked outside and another suspect went and stood next to the wall.

“The suspect who jumped over the wall then handed him a box, jumped back over, got in the vehicle and drove off.”

The officers then followed the vehicle and requested back-up. The vehicle was then stopped and searched.

“The box was found containing electrical appliances.”

The suspects were all arrested for being in possession of the suspected stolen property.

“As the management of the station, we thank and applaud the officers for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their mandate of protecting the South African inhabitants and their property, even while off duty.”
