Another fuel price increase

JOBURG – At least it's the last fuel increase of the year.

At midnight on 5 December the price of fuel increased yet again for the eighth time this year.

The Department of Energy announced that one litre of 93 (ULP and LRP) and 95 (ULP and LRP) each increased by 71 cents, while the price of diesel will increase by 60,30 (0,05 per cent sulphur) and 57,30 (0,005 per cent sulphur) cents a litre.

This will result in motorists paying a record R14,76 for a litre of 95 ULP and LRP, which is the highest price this year.

The price of illuminating paraffin also increased by 98 cents. The department attributed the increases to the global increases in crude oil. They added that the rand’s recent performance against the US dollar added to the decision of increasing fuel prices.

During 2017 the price of fuel increased eight times while only decreasing four times. At the beginning of the year, the price of 93 ULP and 95 ULP was R13,09 and R13,33 respectively.

The price of 93 ULP and 95 ULP has increased on average by R1,40 and R1,43 respectively.
