A Christmas fete for Ferndale Spruit

FERNDALE – After their success with the Ferndale Spruit Fun Day a few weeks ago, the Ferndale Residents' Association hosted its first Christmas fete.

Christmas is only three weeks away, and after their success with the Ferndale Spruit Fun Day a few weeks ago, the Ferndale Residents’ Association hosted its first Christmas fete on 2 November at the English Lutheran Fellowship.

The fete managed to raise over R4 000 for the Ferndale Spruit rehabilitation project.

Erica de Jager, committee member of the residents’ association said, “A few of our stallholders thought it would be a great idea to host a Christmas fete to keep support for the Ferndale Spruit rehabilitation project going,

“We originally planned the event to happen at the spruit, but with the recent weather, we opted for an indoor venue,” she explained.

Visitors had an amazing food choice, from boerewors rolls to Doppio Zero gourmet food, with art on display and fun activities for the little ones to enjoy.

“We could easily ask for donations to help with the project, but I think it’s important to create a better community awareness.”

Bee expert, Gorges Lenferna sells some of the four tons of honey his bees produce each year.

Proceeds from the rental of each stand were given to the Ferndale Spruit rehabilitation project.

“The rehabilitation process is going well. The vagrants have not returned, and the birdlife has increased again.”

In the past three years, the Ferndale Spruit had been plagued by vagrants who occupied the park and continued with their daily recycling activities.

The litter resulted in flooding and other environmental concerns.

Littlies have some fun with arts and craft on the day.
