A Synagogue of Hope

RANDPARK RIDGE – Orphanage pleads with community for assistance.

Synagogue Children of Hope is a non-profit organisation which works with orphaned and abandoned children.

It is based in Randpark Ridge and headed by Anna Msimangwe, whose own childhood of growing up without parents has ignited a passion within her to plough back and help others. The NPO was registered in 2014 after Msimangwe experienced a life-changing incident which sowed the seeds of the organisation.

“Pikitup came to empty the bins and just as one of the guys opened it, he discovered the corpses of two babies who were six months and two months old, respectively,” said Msimangwe.

“That truly broke my heart because if there was an alternative, maybe those children would still be alive today.

“I have also seen homeless children who should be getting assistance but who are not getting it. I want to be the person they can turn to for help.”

Synagogue of Hope currently takes care of almost 10 children of varying ages and Msimangwe believes that even though her efforts will not change the world, they can make a difference in a child’s life. In the three years since the NPO has been registered, almost 100 children have walked through its doors and have seen their lives changed for the better.

“Some have been adopted while others have been reunited with their parents or taken in by foster parents.

“Our organisation has been doing well but we are pleading with the community for assistance. We need nappies, baby formula as well as food and toys or the children.”
