Local talent shares why the stage is his

RUITERHOF – Cassius Davids shares his acting aspirations and current role at the National Children's Theatre.

Do you want to get ‘seussified’ in time for Christmas or maybe want to take your family out to see a local play which promises to have you all in stitches?

A Seussified Christmas Carol is currently on show at the National Children’s Theatre and it stars some great local talent such as Cassius Davids.

The actor is part of an exuberant cast who will have you captivated from the first scene.

The Ruiterhof resident, who plays the narrator in the production, said his role in the play is to help guide the audience through this well-known story.

What he found most endearing about his character was that the narrator serves a link between the world of play and the audience.

“From the beginning of the show, they engage the audience with their comedic antics,” said Davids.

Davids said the narrator, essentially, is a storyteller and he can relate to this as an actor. “The actor’s duty is to tell stories that remind us of our humanity and this story does exactly that.”

What he loves most about the stage is the live performance as it is a valuable medium of storytelling as the reactions and effects from the audience are immediate.

“This aspect makes stage work exciting for me.”

The actor said what most drew him to the art form was his intrigue of human behaviour. He shared that acting and performances serve as a mirror to society and we can use it to address serious issues and yet, at the same time, it makes us forget about the seriousness of life.

This production had him work with children for the first time and he found it was nice to see their confidence grow throughout the rehearsal process and the run of the show.

The production is perfect for the whole family and serves as a great lead-up to Christmas. Davids explained that what he most loves about the festive season is that one gets to celebrate with their families.

“We recuperate from the stress of the year and commemorate the birth of Christ if you’re Christian.”

Davids hopes to start working in television in the future. He is inspired by various people from different walks of life.

“When it comes to acting and film-making I look up to Donald Glover, Dann-Jacques Mouton and Christo Davids.”

What he loves about working with the National Children’s Theatre is that everyone works tirelessly with attention to detail to produce the best in entertainment for the audiences both young and old.
