Raising awareness on World Prematurity Day

JOBURG – In South Africa, one in seven babies is born prematurely.

Today is World Prematurity Day.

This day was established to raise awareness of the high numbers of babies born prematurely which often results in health problems for the infants including brain, lung, hearing and vision issues.

In South Africa, one in seven babies is born prematurely.

This is about 15 per cent of all births per year. This number is on the rise and therefore makes this day an important one.
