The community can rest easy this festive season knowing their shopping will be done under the supervision of the police.
This comes after the South African Police Service officially launched this year’s provincial Safer Festive Season operations last weekend.
There will be heightened police visibility and crime prevention operations at identified crime hotspots while continuing to prioritise the safety of women and children.
As part of the operations, the Honeydew Police Cluster received more than 70 students from the police training academy who will patrol shopping malls.
Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said the patrols are part of the students’ service training.
“This is a national operation and patrols will be done every weekend until further notice. This is to ensure that the community has a crime-free shopping experience this festive season and to also keep them and businesses safe. There will be a police presence at malls such as Clearwater Mall, Westgate Shopping Centre, Diepsloot Mall, Fourways Mall and Nicol Way Shopping Centre,” he said.
