Randburg police welcome sentencing of criminal

RANDBURG – Several suspects have been convicted for crimes they committed and over 160 arrested for other crimes.

Siyabonga Vilakazi (33) has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for house robbery.

According to police, Vilakazi broke into a Randburg home in July using an axe. At the time, the victim of the robbery was home and saw Vilakazi entering through the window.

She could not get to the panic button in time and was ordered by Vilikazi to lie down and he tied her up using cellphone chargers. He warned the victim not to scream or call for help, threatening to hit her with the axe.

He stole electrical appliances and once he had left, the victim crawled to the sitting room and called her daughter to alert the police. A case was opened at the Randburg Police Station, and Vilakazi was arrested shortly thereafter.

Captain Makgowanyana Maja, Randburg police spokesperson said, “The management of the station welcomed the sentence as that will be a lesson to potential criminals.”

Maja added that officers of the station had carried out various operations recently and more than 160 suspects were arrested for various crimes.

The crimes include armed robbery, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, and drunk driving.
