Saving the environment one kerb at a time

NORTH RIDING – Residents urged to recycle for the betterment of the environment.

Mankoana Nhlebela, a finalist in this year’s Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa pageant, has partnered with Mpact Recycling to encourage North Riding residents to join the Kerbside Recycling Programme.

This is the third consecutive year that Mpact has partnered with the pageant.

A North Riding resident herself, Nhlebela said, “As a community we can work together to preserve our environment.

“Not just for ourselves but also with the mind that our children will need to be nurtured by this very environment.”

She said socio-economic benefits of recycling household waste should be a great motivator of how we as a community can contribute positively to preserving our country.

The programme takes place every Tuesday and residents can take part in the free weekly Kerbside Collection Service from Mpact Recycling, including the delivery and supply of reusable Ronnie Bags.

“Previously we collected paper only; now we are adding cartons to the mix, namely long life milk and juice TetraPak Cartons,” said Nhlebela.

She explained that all the paper and cartons which are collected from residents’ homes are manufactured into ‘new’ packaging by our Mpact Paper Division.

“You will also be supporting our owner-driver scheme which has a positive impact on job creation and small business development.

“Residents also benefit the environment by diverting recyclable paper away from landfills.”
