Johannesburg Water confirmed on Saturday that water in the North Riding area is free of any bacteria.

The results indicate that all residents may consume or use their tap water for drinking and cooking as usual.

According to Johannesburg Water, the test samples were taken from seven water hydrants in the area, and there were no traces of harmful bacteria and E.coli.

Over the past few days, there was suspected contamination in sewer pipes near Aureole Avenue, Boundary Road, Spionkop Road and Olievenhout Street, North Riding.

The contamination is suspected to have occurred when a small amount of sewage water mixed with clean water in pipes.

The company has also taken time to apologise for any inconvenience caused to residents.
