World-famous Harry Houdini died on this day in 1926 and will forever remain one of the most popular and memorable magicians of all time.
Houdini is most famous for his escape artistry as on multiple occasions he managed to escape from chains, ropes, handcuffs and many others. Before he would dazzle crowds with his impossible escapes he would have people strip-search him first to assure spectators and non-believers that he was a master of magic and not a conman.
After his death, 31 October was named ‘Houdini Day’ but over the years it has become a day to celebrate what he made famous, magic.
