Water and electricity issues have angered Jukskei Park residents

JUKSKEI PARK – water and electrical cuts leave residents fuming

Residents and Ward 115 councillor had a meeting to discuss a way forward for the constant water and electricity cuts that are being experienced in the suburb.

According to Ward 115 councillor Matome Mafokwane, the meeting took place on 17 October where residents voiced their concerns about unannounced water and electricity cuts in Jukskei Park and surrounding areas.

He said, “Residents are angry due to the fact that in the last three months alone they were hit with over 20 power outages, averaging one in every three days and with some power cuts lasting up to 20 hours.”

The issue of water cuts is linked to a tellavella pipe that keeps bursting. On average the pipe bursts once every three months.

Mafokwane has assured residents that Nico de Jager, MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, has put plans in place to address these challenges. Mafokwane added, “Departments need to strengthen communication with residents so that people aren’t left angry and disappointed.”

A follow-up meeting will be held on 28 October for Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultations and feedback. The IDP consultations will allow for engagement with residents and the City on service delivery issues and the long-term strategies that will be used to deal with them. The meeting will be held at Cooper College in Jukskei Park at 12pm.
