JRA to resolve knocked over traffic lights around Johannesburg

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Johannesburg Roads Agency urges motorists and residents to report broken or knocked over traffic lights.

For the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), one traffic light knocked over is one too many.

While traffic light problems are resolved, traffic lights problems are becoming more frequent.

Randburg Sun approached the spokesperson for the agency, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, who said Johannesburg experiences about 70 knocked over traffic lights per month. She said these traffic light problems usually come as a result of accidents which happen more frequently over weekends as well as during rainy weather.

Peters-Scheepers said the agency usually resolves these cases by erecting new traffic light poles and reconnecting or replacing necessary cables. The Randburg Sun reported the knocked over traffic light on the intersection of Jim Fouche Road and Beyers Naudé Drive to the agency on 19 October and later that day, a new traffic light was erected.

The traffic light took less than 12 hours to be replaced even though Peters-Scheepers said it would be dealt with by 27 October.

Details: Report broken or knocked over traffic lights to the agency on 086 056 2874 or email hotline@jra.org.za.

A more convenient way to report issues would be to download the agency’s Find&Fix phone app or post the issue on Twitter on @MyJRA.
