Statistics South Africa to run Quarterly Labour Force Survey over the next three months

JOBURG – Stats SA could be paying your household a visit soon.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) is gearing up to send their field staff onto the streets over the next three months to collect data for their Quarterly Labour Force Survey.

Stats SA will be collecting labour force information that will be used for planning, decision-making, monitoring and assessment of policies by government departments, businesses and the general public. The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) seeks to provide information on employment, the labour market in South Africa, and the official unemployment rate.

Not every household or individual will be surveyed, as Stats SA only collects data from selected respondents. These respondents are chosen scientifically using internationally approved practice methods, therefore, it is important for the selected respondents to participate in the survey.

Field staff are not allowed to substitute a selected respondent or household for another.

Field staff can be identified by their Stats SA ID cards, branded vehicles and branded questionnaires. If a resident would like to verify the field staff, they can contact the Stats SA provincial office.

Statistics South Africa is mandated in terms of the Statistics Act No 6 of 1999 to collect household information from the public. Section 16 of the Act imposes an obligation on all people to answer all questions put orally or in writing to them by Stats SA officials and to answer them honestly and truthfully.

All information provided by respondents is kept confidential and will not be passed onto any individual or organisation for any purpose.
