How can small business and informal business owners become more involved in conversations with the City of Johannesburg? The ultimate aim is to create more jobs. How can small business owners become part of this dialogue?

Ward 101 councillor, Dalu Cele, answered:
Small businesses play an important role in the economic growth of the city, and by employing people of the city. The City [of Joburg] has a target to grow the economy of the city 5 per cent by 2021. The Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, in his State of the City address stated, “There are now a total of seven hubs throughout the city and our plan is to double this to 14 hubs by the end of the 2017/18 financial year.”
Through the Small Business Hubs, small businesses are able to interact with the City.
There are many platforms where the City provides platforms for small businesses to be part of the dialogue in creating jobs. One of the platforms is the entrepreneurship ecosystem symposium that will take place at the Joburg Theatre on 23 and 24 October. The symposium is organised by the Department of Economic Development.
