Jailed for business robbery by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court

FERNDALE – The two robbers were found hiding in the bathroom of the business.

Akim Moyo (35) and Xaba Mduduzi (29) were sentenced to six years’ imprisonment suspended for three years by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

On 26 July last year, the victim left his business premises at Long Street, Ferndale. All of the doors and windows were locked and the alarm was activated.

At about 1.35am on 27 July, he received a call from the security company informing him that the alarm had been set off. On his arrival, he found Randburg police and the security company already there.

He led them inside the premises to search for any intruders and discovered that the bathroom door was locked. Police officers broke down the door and found Moyo and Mduduzi hiding inside. The investigation established that the two gained entry into the building by removing tiles on the roof.

The two suspects were arrested by Constable Ezekiel Moime and Constable Nakampe Mapeti.

The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Wonder Lubisi for further investigation.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja provided these crime prevention tips:

  • Do not leave any tools or ladders lying around the yard. Heavy duty tools should be locked away.
  • Do not leave your garage, front or back door open or partially open as it serves as an invitation to burglars.
  • Make provision for good outside lighting but remember that lights which are left on during the day attract the attention of thieves.
