The Creek 9 par 3 Mashie golf course in Roosevelt hosts a game of a different variety – foot golf.
The course is managed by the Randpark Golf Club and is a public use facility frequented by players of all ages with varying ability and skills. But what makes this course different is the installation of a foot golf course which consists of the regular 9 holes and varying tee off positions or should we say ‘kick-off’ locations.
The game itself is very similar to golf but the usual golf club and ball are replaced with a soccer ball, your feet and a much bigger hole. The ball is a regulation soccer ball and each ‘kick-off’ must be played from the tee off box while trying to avoid all trees, bushes and bunkers.
As in the game of golf, the person who finishes the 9 holes with the least amount of shots wins.
Foot golf player Natalie Seber said, “I was really dreading this because I am not a fan of golf at all but this was so much fun to spend a sunny Sunday with family and friends.”
Foot golf does take a little bit of skill to get the best score and it is best played in a large group starting at different times to avoid long waiting periods. It is definitely a game to be played with a few cold ones and friends. Just try not to irritate the actual golf players while having a good laugh.
