The British International Preparatory School celebrated spring and got scientific about it.
The schoolchildren were dressed in their best spring attire to welcome the glorious season. The day was not only about the celebration of spring, it also called for the little ones to put their science knowledge to the test.
Classes were tasked to complete either an experiment or describe a scientific process. Topics ranged from how to launch a rocket, what are volcanoes, how crystallisation occurs and the human skeleton. The classroom’s four walls were ditched for a morning of learning under the spring sun.
Principal of the school, Garth Thompson said they celebrated spring day every year as one of their many special activities that highlighted the diversity of the children at the institution.
“We have children from 49 different nationalities in our school and this means that many of our children have very different ideas of what spring is like,” he said.
Thompson added that for some children the day was melting snow and the sun breaking through for the first time in a while, and for others, spring was new leaves on the trees and blossoms everywhere.
He said the celebration of the day in this country symbolised bright colours and a sense of a new beginning. “It is so amazing that every year we get to start again and have the benefit of amazing weather and even better people.”
He concluded they had a competition for the best hat and also had an afternoon picnic.
“The energy level was so high and everyone had fun.”
