Armed robbery suspect behind bars

FERNDALE – The suspect tried to run away but was apprehended and arrested.

A suspect (38) will appear in Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of armed robbery.

On 3 August at about 5.30am, the victim was waiting for a taxi outside one of the liquor outlets in Bram Fischer Drive. Four suspects approached him and one allegedly pointed a firearm at him.

Another suspect searched him and allegedly robbed him of his cash and cellphone. After the suspects had fled the scene the victim spotted a police vehicle and was able to provide the police with a full description of one of the suspects. The search continued in the area and the victim spotted the suspect.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The suspect tried to run away but was arrested. The [search] for the remaining suspects continues.”

During the same weekend, additional arrests were made in other incidents. This included 13 arrests for offenders who were driving under the influence of alcohol, one arrest for reckless and negligent driving, one for assault related to the Domestic Violence Act and the arrest of a suspect who allegedly had house breaking implements in his possession.
